  • Reduce traffic speed and volume through preserve.
  • Preserve Western Spadefoot Toad vernal pools.
  • Cluster sports park facilities to confine impacts.
  • Preserve Mather’s greatest biodiversity “Critter Pool” used to teach thousands of school children every year.
  • Preserve, restore, and repurpose Mather buildings of historical importance.
  • Protect vital bird habitat (mature Cottonwood stands and other long-established trees).

County proposal would:

  • Disrupt vernal pool hydrology by trenching for a 30-foot deep sewer line.
  • Increase traffic speed and volume through preserve, causing far greater wildlife kills.
  • Cause local extinction of Western Spadefoot Toad.
  • Scatter sports park facilities in three different parts of Mather Field.
  • Destroy Mather’s greatest biodiversity “Critter Pool” used to teach thousands of school children every year.
  • Demolish Mather buildings of historical significance.
  • Eliminate vital bird habitat (mature Cottonwood stands and other long-established trees).
  • Flatten and “pave over” the natural landscape, disregarding natural land contours.
  • Ruin Mather's open space aesthetics (visual beauty, quiet, abundant wildlife).
